Release Notes: SoftSIM Quectel Integration: QuecOpen SDK

SoftSIM for Quectel’s QuecOpen SDK has gone live on our GitHub, which means that you can now use SoftSIM with a wide range of Quectel’s UNISOC modules.

We have SoftSIM news!

SoftSIM for Quectel QuecOpen SDK has gone live on our GitHub, which means that you can now use SoftSIM with a wide range of Quectel’s UNISOC modules, including:

  • EG912U Series
  • EG915U Series

By open-sourcing this SoftSIM integration on our GitHub repository, we’re essentially handing over the keys to you. This level of complete transparency allows you to see exactly what’s under the hood and enables you, as the user, to own whatever you develop next.

Why?

Instead of shipping pre-built firmware packages that are difficult to explore, we’re consolidating everything in one place so you can build your own firmware. You gain complete control, and we step aside because the entire ecosystem benefits when developers get to refine and enhance the foundation we’ve established to align with their specific use case.

By open-sourcing this project, we encourage you to use our reference implementation as your starting point for building similar solutions in your own environments. That’s what we think SoftSIM is really about: giving you the tools to make it your own.

Integrating SoftSIM with your Quectel modules removes the need for a physical SIM, and with fewer hardware dependencies, you can scale faster, reduce logistics complexity, and focus on building IoT devices that are more efficient, both in terms of cost and battery performance.

IoT / M2M SIMs
If you’re building IoT devices today, you’re likely looking at traditional, physical SIM form factors, and possibly embedded SIMs. But there’s a newer form factor starting to reshape how connectivity is designed: iSIMs. So what actually changes with iSIMs—and when do they make sense to use? We break it down in this article.
